WILS-Chi Members Pack Purses to Support Women

On February 15, 2024, the women of WILS-Chi Chapter held our first service event. A small but mighty group packed 40 purses full of personal items and toiletries and notes of encouragement to benefit the women helped by Sarah's Inn through an amazing connection we were fortunate to make through #lovepurse.

WILS-Chi has elevated our mission of supporting women who work in the field of parks and recreation to supporting women who are working to break the cycle of domestic violence.

It seems as if this event was truly meant to be! In September, at the annual installation luncheon, several people indicated in their survey responses that they would like to see WILS offer a service event. A few months later, our President, Joan Scovic, saw an article about #LovePurse - a group that assists organizations who help women throughout the Chicagoland area. Board member Nicole Derrig took the ball and ran with it - reaching out to #LovePurse and organizing today's service project from reaching out to the organizations to refreshments to card making supplies.

Thanks to everyone who showed up today and to those from Wheeling Park District, Bloomingdale Park District, Northbrook Park District, Winnetka Park District, Prospect Heights Park District and Maine-Niles SRA who couldn't attend but sent donations - you have all made a difference!

Following today's efforts, 40 women will receive a special gift of love grown from this community effort. Finally, a shout out to Oak Brook Park District for hosting us today!
